video

On this page we have some of the video art I've made (that is to say, the videos I've made). Each and every one of these videos has a context that might be hard to fully explain with words but I've tried anyways. I really enjoy video as a medium and hope to keep adding to my list of creations.

This was a project I created for a film/video production class I took in my sophomore year of college. It was easily one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken and it was especially fascinating given how online video has only really been around for the better part of 20 years or so. The "prompt" for creating this video was 1. To practice using Adobe Premiere but 2. to create a video that didn't have sound and involved layering of videos side-by-side that would interact/narrate with one another in some way. In our class feedback sessions I was told that the recurring scenes were kind of cryptic, so just to let you know they represent digits on a digital clock, counting down from nine to zero.

This was another video from my class and to be honest this one never really came out as what I intended it to be. We were intended to take some sort of painting or other form of physical, visual art and recreate it in a video form. I was practicing video masking heavily and wanted to incorporate that somehow. The end result is a little strange. An inspirational story of a man and a squirrel trading places? I'm not really sure and I'm the one who created it.

This was the third video of my class, we were meant to document something. That didn't necessarily mean make a documentary (or mini-doc) per se, but that's exactly the direction I chose to take it. I was torn between talking about ghosts in the Twin Cities, the history of gangsters in the Twin Cities, or talking about the history of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. I chose gangsters.

This is the fourth video. It was meant to reflect something about ourselves. Please join my cult. Yes, this is the same hill mentioned in one of the stories in my "writing" section.

Chronologically this should be the third video of my class but it was more about practicing video editing than formally creating a project. However, it tells a very sad story about what happens when a boy and his monkey grow apart.

This one had nothing to do with art classes, I just wanted in some way to create something that would instill a feeling of warmth. This is a 6-second loop playing for two and a half minutes straight. We are playing the Zimbabwean mbira instrument (called a "thumb piano" in English).

I miss the people in this video dearly. I'm really stretching the definition of "art" with this video, but here you go. I take lots of short clips like these when I'm travelling places in the hope of creating some sort of video project with them. It rarely ever happens, but taken as they are they bring me a lot of nostalgia and happiness. This was in Vermont during the summer of 2019.

I will write a longer description of this video later.

This is your reward for scrolling to the bottom of this page. It's a play from my High School theater class I wrote and starred in. I didn't like theater much just because I'm a very timid person but being with close friends is always a good time. The audio and video quality are pretty terrible, but hopefully you can pick some of it out.
