contemporary

The following are a collection of songs I made between late 2017 and early 2019. They were all created on a pre-installed version of Garageband on my 2011 Macbook air, the only computer I had at that time. Sometime in 2018 I spilled mouthwash on the keyboard by accident and half of the keys stopped working. Undeterred, uninhibited, I did my best. The songs are presented in the order I would have chosen were I to make an "album" out of them. At the very end are some of the stranger songs I made. The last two in particular are essentially inside jokes in a .mp3 format, never meant to be listened to as a song but rather laughed at in the company of friends. You may notice that each song is accompanied by a quote and has a unique photo to go with it. Many of these photos I took/photoshopped myself on that very same piece of junk computer. The habit of putting quotes and pictures with the songs had to do with me uploading them to youtube— I couldn't upload just an audio file (it had to be video) and I was also prompted to put in a description of the video— hence the quote.

Going to Peru is, well, if you ever have an opportunity in your life to go there, you should do it because it is absolutely mind boggling.

- Dean Stockwell

We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.

- Stephen Hawking

"I would enjoy flying to Mars. This was the dream of the first cosmonauts. I wish I could realize it! I am ready to fly without coming back."

- Valentina Tereshkova

“There must be something ghostly in the air of Christmas — something about the close, muggy atmosphere that draws up the ghosts, like the dampness of the summer rains brings out the frogs and snails.”

- Jerome K. Jerome

Hrörnar þöll; sú er stendr þorpi á; hlýr-at henni börkr né barr; svá er maðr; sá er manngi ann. Hvat skal hann lengi lifa?

A tree withers; that on a hill-top stands; protects it neither bark nor leaves: such is the man; whom no one favours: why should he live long?

- Odin Borson

"It is idleness that is the curse of man - not labour. Idleness eats the heart out of men as of nations, and consumes them as rust does iron."

- Samuel Smiles

“I imagine that one of the biggest troubles with colleges is there are too many distractions, too much panty-raiding, fraternities, and boola-boola and all of that.”

- Malcolm X

“If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.”

- George S. Patton Jr.

“Maybe she saw the sweet persimmon sunrise─or maybe she was already too far gone.”

- Shirley A. Martin

“He probably was mediocre after all, though in a very honorable sense of that word.”

- Thomas Mann

Quote omitted.

"Youth is such a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children."

- George Bernard Shaw

“Some of us look for the Way in opium and some in God, some of us in whiskey and some in love. It is all the same Way and it leads nowhither.”

- W. Somerset Maugham

“The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.”

- Terry Pratchett

The chances of each of us coming into existence are infinitesimally small, and even though we shall all die some day, we should count ourselves fantastically lucky to get our decades in the sun.

- Richard Dawkins

"I miss you."

- E.B.O. Boyce

"We must free ourselves of the hope that the sea will ever rest. We must learn to sail in high winds."

- Aristotle Onassis

“Never ruin an apology with an excuse.”

- Benjamin Franklin

Not only does this one not have a quote to go with it, it doesn't have a title. Strange.
